Altice Wholesale Solution is the landing provider for the 2Africa submarine cable in Carcavelos, Portugal. The cable was moored this week in Carcavelos, one of the European landing points from which this state-of-the-art infrastructure enters mainland Portugal.
The cable offers important additional capacity to meet the demand for global telecommunications services in the coming decades and will improve connectivity for companies, institutions, and private customers.
Launched in May 2020, 2Africa aims to significantly increase the capacity, quality and availability of internet connectivity between Africa and the rest of the world. When completed, the new cable will connect 33 countries on three continents (Europe, Africa and Asia), stretching over 45,000 kilometers.
Altice has been involved in the national and international submarine cable industry for over 50 years. It is the company responsible for operating the submarine cables linking Mainland-Azores-Madeira (CAM), as well as operating the submarine cable system linking the Azores islands, which makes up the Inter-Islands system. And it has two international Submarine Cable Stations (SCS), located in Sesimbra and Carcavelos.
The 2Africa consortium includes eight international partners: Bayobab, Center3, China Mobile International, Meta, Orange, Telecom Egypt, Vodafone Group and WIOCC. Alcatel Submarine Networks is responsible for manufacturing and installing the 2Africa cable.
