From hyperscalers to local heroes, modern data center near Frankfurt offers top speed & security to all
MainRZ is a new, upcoming data center within the critical high-speed telecom radius of Frankfurt am Main, Germany. Due to open in the second half of 2022, it will offer optimal efficiencies at competitive prices, only possible in a brand new data center at such a strategic location. The operator NewTelco GmbH aims to share these advantages not only to big global players, but also to local companies or mid-sized businesses in any country looking for the right mixture of speed, connectivity and security. Another big plus for all: independent electricity supply from two major providers.
Until now, NewTelco’s core clientele has been in the high-volume carrier business, for whom fast and secure interconnection is the holy grail. Their current data centers are therefore located at the pulse of the world’s major hubs, including Frankfurt. Situated in Karlstein am Main, just upstream from Frankfurt, MainRZ aims to bring this speed and reliability to other players – large and small – by expanding their colocation offer to a wider range of clientele. NewTelco Founder and CEO Matthias Hartmann explains his rationale: “Our aim is to win over new customer groups who are looking for the kinds of individualized services other data centers don’t offer. They need speed and reliability, but also a certain degree of flexibility and hands-on expertise which our trained technicians offer on site at MainRZ.”
There is a whole range of potential customers that could find MainRZ attractive. They could be small to medium-sized companies from the area that mostly need high availability coupled with GDPR-compliance, e.g. lawyer offices or healthcare facilities. They could also be large national companies or even banks, who need to adhere to strict regulations concerning uptime, location and physical distance between data centers. A certain share of the rack space at MainRZ will also certainly go to NewTelco’s current international customers, such as carriers and hyperscalers that are looking for redundancy close to the hub of Frankfurt – or other international companies with similar needs.
CEO Hartmann especially sees IT consulting firms as ideal partners. They offer their customers a range of services, including hosting, but do not have their own data centers. “These firms understand the significance of what we are building here,” Hartmann continues. “Thanks to our direct fiber optic connection to Frankfurt, MainRZ is not only a speed champion, but we also offer a highly unique security of supply. Situated right on the border of two German states, Hesse and Bavaria, we get our electricity from two completely independent sources. This almost eliminates the risk of downtime, which can be very expensive, especially for customers running high traffic online businesses.”
Another advantage Hartmann highlights is complete flexibility in the choice of carrier, again thanks to MainRZ’s own fiber optic connection to Frankfurt. As a result, customers can connect with hundreds of different carriers around the world and are not bound to the traditional local providers.
MainRZ will be one of the first data centers in the region, compliant with Tier 4/VK 4 requirements for power and telecommunication connectivity and not located directly in Frankfurt. Many German companies are required by law to store their data in a local certified data center, so MainRZ will be especially attractive to those located in Germany.
